The Kremlin said Monday it has nothing to say yet on the "energy ceasefire" President Trump announced Sunday, and Trump's call for Ukraine to get a new leader added to the uncertainty around the truce (AP, Kyiv Independent, AFP).

What was said

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said "contacts are ongoing" and that Moscow would say more when it has something to say (Kyiv Independent, citing TASS; AP). AFP says Russia refused to say whether an agreement had been reached, a day after Trump's announcement. AP reports that Russia has continued attacking Ukrainian energy facilities, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has criticized the diesel deal.

AP and AFP also report Trump said Ukraine should get a new leader after Zelenskyy criticized Washington's easing of sanctions on Russian diesel.

Why markets care

Oil traders have been watching the truce as a possible source of added supply. Saxo UK strategist Neil Wilson said efforts to secure an energy truce were "muddy" and that the US deal to buy some Russian diesel is "a drop in the ocean" (AFP).
