The 10-year US Treasury yield was around 5.25% to 5.26% on Friday morning, up slightly from 5.22% late Thursday, according to the AP, Reuters and Trading Economics (5.26% at 11:10 AM).
How high is it
Reuters said it was holding close to a 24-year high of 5.364%, hit on Wednesday. The AP said the yield recently touched its highest since 2002, and that the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate is at its highest in nearly three years.
Why it matters
The AP said high yields make borrowing more expensive and make investors less willing to pay high prices for stocks. It also noted that strong demand at recent Treasury auctions has limited further increases. For the Fed side of the story, see our Waller story.
