Five things to know before the open.

1. Futures wait for bank earnings

US stock futures were muted early Monday. Investing.com had S&P 500 and Dow futures up 0.1% each and Nasdaq 100 futures flat, while the Wall Street Journal said futures pointed to small gains as oil slipped and Dow Jones described them as struggling for direction ahead of the big banks' earnings on Tuesday. Wall Street is open Monday, but the Treasury market is closed for Columbus Day (Dow Jones, Reuters). In Asia, South Korea's KOSPI fell 3.65% in a chip-led sell-off; see our story. Our earlier note: First Light.

2. Oil: Russian diesel plan against Gulf risks

Brent crude was down less than 1% early Monday (WSJ); Dow Jones had December Brent at $104.53 and WTI at $90.69 earlier in the morning. The Journal says the initial 300,000 tons of Russian diesel is less than a day's US consumption, so the market reaction was muted. President Trump posted on Sunday that an "energy ceasefire" is in effect between Russia and Ukraine, but Dow Jones notes Moscow has rejected such a deal so far and there is no sign one is in place. Goldman Sachs raised its December Brent forecast to $90 a barrel from $85, citing persistent supply risks (Dow Jones). Full story: Oil eases after the Russian diesel deal. 3. Houthi attacks hit Saudi Arabia's main airport

Saudi authorities said a missile struck King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, killing 12 people and wounding 309, Al Jazeera reported. The Houthis claimed a new attack on the airport on Sunday that Saudi authorities said caused injuries. Dow Jones lists the strikes among the risks investors are weighing.

4. Amazon is reported to be in talks to buy Decart

The Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon is in talks to buy AI startup Decart in a deal that could be valued around $7 billion, citing people familiar with the matter. Decart makes software that helps developers switch between AI chips. Calcalist's CTech, repeating the Journal, said the talks could still fall apart. Amazon shares were little changed premarket (Dow Jones).

5. On the calendar

JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo and Citigroup report before the open on Tuesday (Dow Jones). September CPI is due Wednesday at 8:30 AM ET (Bureau of Labor Statistics). ASML reports Wednesday and TSMC Thursday (Reuters). See our week-ahead story for the full list.
